Dr. Daniel Udatinya is a Consultant Urologic Surgeon, academic lecturer, and clinical researcher, and the founder of Urology Health Consulting Limited. He established the practice in 2026 to give patients in Kigali discreet, coordinated, and specialist-led access to urological care. He currently serves as Consultant Urologic Surgeon at Rwanda Military Referral and Teaching Hospital (RMRTH), where he provides tertiary-level specialist care, performs open, endoscopic, and minimally invasive urologic procedures, and supervises the training of urology residents and junior doctors.
He completed his Master of Medicine (MMed) in Urology at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, following a five-year senior registrar residency across two of the university's academic hospitals, and is a Fellow of the College of Surgeons in Urologic Surgery (FCS-Urol) through COSECSA, alongside a Master of Public Health (MPH). Between 2025 and 2026, he undertook advanced international training in endourology and minimally invasive urology at Sahyadri and Manipal Hospitals in Pune, India — covering percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL), retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS), laser lithotripsy, the Rezum procedure for BPH, prostate cancer screening and management, and kidney transplant medicine.
In 2026, Dr. Udatinya completed a urology clinical observership in India, undertaken to broaden his exposure to contemporary urological practice, particularly in endourology, minimally invasive urological surgery, and advanced clinical and surgical decision-making. This experience provided valuable opportunities to observe different approaches to patient assessment, operative planning, surgical techniques, perioperative care, and multidisciplinary management within a high-volume tertiary-care setting.
Importantly, he undertook this observership without external financial funding or sponsorship. The costs associated with the travel, accommodation, and related expenses were self-funded. He pursued the opportunity because of his strong commitment to continuous professional development and to bringing relevant knowledge and skills back to strengthen urological services and training in his home country, Rwanda.
This experience has further strengthened his ambition to obtain structured international training and mentorship in advanced urology, particularly endourology, minimally invasive surgery and uro-oncology. His long-term objective is to transfer the knowledge and skills gained abroad to Rwanda through clinical practice, teaching, mentorship, and capacity building, thereby contributing to sustainable development of specialist urological services and training in his home country.
Alongside clinical practice, he has held teaching appointments at the University of the Witwatersrand, Kigali Institute of Health, and Mount Kenya University, and mentors medical students, residents, and junior specialists. His published research spans urologic oncology, endourology, and congenital urologic disorders, and he has presented at international conferences including the International AIDS Conference in Canada and the TUFH International Conference in Uganda.
